With a slick style and smooth groove, bassist Scott Walters is a long-time veteran of the Milwaukee music scene.
His first band, BLAKE 7, was formed in the winter of 1983. They released a self titled cassette which received heavy local airplay, and the song “Secrets” cracked the top 10 on college radio. From the mid to late 80’s, they became one of the largest drawing alternative rock acts in the area. They played hundreds of clubs, colleges, and festivals. Blake 7 also made several television appearances, contributed to a independent movie soundtrack, and stirred some interest in a few record labels. In 2003, an anthology CD, entitled “Out of the Shadows” was released.
In 1992, Scott formed the alternative/country act THIN MAN. For the next seven years, they released 3 CD’S, played hundreds of shows all over Wisconsin, Illinois and Michigan. In 1997, Thin Man was nominated for a W.A.M.I. award for best folk/rock band.
In 1999 he formed the power pop band JOYRIDE, which lasted a few years and gained a fair following. He also wrote most of their early original material.
In 1995, he was then recruited for another band, called MUSABI. This band was an eclectic mix of rock, blues, jazz, and soul. Musabi unfortunately broke up before the completion of their CD. Slowly but surely that CD is still being mixed and, will hopefully be released in the next year. To this day he claims that MUSABI was still the best original band he was ever took part in.
After Musabi, Scott joined forces with veteran Chicago based blues guitarist SUE DABACO. In adding MUSABI drummer Darrel Douglas to the mix, SUE DABACO's band was formed. (then called SUE DABACO AND WISE FOOLS) They quickly melded their appreciation for blues and progressive rock into a unique style of their own. In spring 2007, they released their first CD, “Voodoo Juice” (Happy Accident Records). In 2008 they won the Grafton Blues Challenge, which led them to the 2009 International Blues Challenge held in Memphis, Tn. where they won club favorite and ended up in the top 20 out of nearly 200 bands from around the globe. Besides playing clubs and festivals all over Wisconsin, they have played huge shows in Seattle, Iowa, and North Dakota. Scott left the SUE DABACO GROUP at the end of 2010.
During the fall of 2009, while still in the "SDG", Scott also played a role in the formation of the Country Blues Rock sensation OCTOBER SOUL. This band also includes Former Hound's Tooth award winning lead vocalist Jamie Brace, former lead guitarist for The Katz Sass, Joe Barborich, and drummer Steve Campeau. In April of 2011, Scott re-joined OS. Recently, Scott stated that he is thrilled to be "back where he belongs", and is stoked to be playing in a band with the best vocalist, guitarist, and drummer that he has ever played with, and best yet, all in the same band!
In may of 2011, he also started a side project, a new band called The F.U.D's! This will be primarily a studio band recording most of his original music from past bands, and includes several old musician's from his past.
Scott's bands, past and present, have shared the stage with the following acts: Jeff Beck, Lynyrd Skynyrd, 38 Special, Indiginous, Sonny Landreth, Bryan Lee, Chris Duarte, Marcia Ball, Taylor Dayne, The Smithereens, The Brandos, Kim Wilson, Walter Trout, Sue Foley and Vixen. Some bassists that have influenced Scott are John Entwistle, John Paul Jones, Paul McCartney, Phil Lynnot, Tom Peterson, Geddy Lee and Sting.
